Fast energy release from reactive materials under shock compression

چکیده

Metal-based reactive nanomaterials (RNMs) can produce two to three times more energy than conventional organic explosives, but the exothermic reactions, which ordinarily require diffusive mixing of separated fuel and oxidizer components, are too slow do not generate enough gas detonations. Here, we studied shock initiation 4Al/Bi2O3 4Al/BiF3 RNMs produced by arrested milling. Initiated a 3 km/s impact, approximates powerful detonation, fast release 3200 K temperatures. In fluoride, rapid volume increase was also observed. The shock-induced orders magnitude faster when RNM heated. Although these powders themselves likely cannot detonations, our results suggest that used as additives in detonating systems, they might significantly boost chemical explosives.

Shock compression and isentropic release of granite

S U M M A R Y New equation of state data for a weathered granite shocked to about 125 GPa are reported and combined with the Westerly granite data of McQueen, Marsh & Fritz (1967). The shock velocity (Us)-particle velocity (Up) relations can be fitted with two linear regressions: Us = 4.40 + 0.6Up for a range of Up up to about 2 km s-' and Us = 2.66 + 1.49Up for a range of about 2 to 5 km s-'. ...

Structural Dynamics of Materials under Shock Compression Investigated with Synchrotron Radiation

Characterizing material dynamics in non-equilibrium states is a current challenge in material and physical sciences. Combining laser and X-ray pulse sources enables the material dynamics in non-equilibrium conditions to be directly monitored. In this article, we review our nanosecond time-resolved X-ray diffraction studies with 100-ps X-ray pulses from synchrotron radiation concerning the dynam...
